FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the time commitment involved with being an ambassador?
Ambassadors play a crucial role in conveying an image of the College and the "Skidmore experience" to campus visitors. Ambassadors are Skidmore to most families! In addition to having a fun and exciting time in this position, ambassadors have a large responsibility requiring commitment and dedication to the College and to the mission of the Admissions Office. The Ambassador commitment involves:
- Guiding 1-2 tours per week from February 15 - End of Semester AND guiding 2 tours per week during the 2010-2011 academic year
- Guiding 4 Saturday tours each semester
- Guiding for Open Houses and Accepted Candidates Days (unless in class)
- Attending mandatory meetings through out the semester
- Assisting with hiring and training of new ambassadors
- Reading Ambassador Manual and Admissions Publications - knowing all the relevant and fun Skidmore facts
How many hours per week do Ambassadors work on average?
Ambassadors give 2 tours per week. Each tour lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Is being a Skidmore Ambassador a paid position?
Yes! Ambassadors are paid $8.00 first year. Please note that touring is not a primary source of employment. Work-study students or applicants requiring additional income will need to seek out another campus employment opportunity.
What kind of training is required?
Ambassador training is continuous. In addition to formal training (dates listed above) and varied mandatory meetings, ambassadors are expected to attend lectures, performances, exhibits, athletic events, etc. Ambassadors need to know about all aspects of Skidmore.
When will I be contacted for an interview?
Strong applicants will be contacted for interviews after Winter Break.
What about summer Ambassador positions?
Due to the intense nature of our summer Ambassador program, we prefer students not guide during the fall semester. Summer positions are full-time from 8:30-4:30, and students have the option of living on or off campus. For more information, please contact Karlene Kunigiel at kkunigie@skidmore.edu or x5577.
