Dear Jan,

Spring is coming to the Berkshires.  The trees are in bud and we have had several glorious days.  I hope it is like that where you are.  However, I am not writing a nature letter but rather a letter to tell you that neither Sally Bogan Jenkins nor myself are going to be able to come to the 65th reunion of the Class of 1945.  We are truly sorry and we will be thinking about those of you who are able to attend.

I’m sure most of you read Scope.  It tells of all the exciting things that are happening at Skidmore.  The winter issue contained an excellent letter written by our classmate Sue Rabinowitz Malloy in response to a report from Skidmore’s Responsible Citizenship Task Force.  I hope you have saved the issue so that you can read the letter.

The Responsible Citizenship Task Force is one example of the many exciting things that are happening at Skidmore.  I particularly like the “Creative Thought Matters” concept that is pervading the entire community at Skidmore.  I believe that President Glotzbach has been doing an excellent job at Skidmore and the result of this is a college that we can be very proud of.  How wonderful to say that we graduated from Skidmore, such a very fine institution.

The present state of the economy has resulted in the decrease of my income so that most of my income must pay for living cost leaving less of charitable contributions.  Many thanks to the members of our class who have contributed to the Annual Fund.  Out of 113 members, 53% have given with $10,034 raised.  Last year at this time, we had 32% participation and had raised $7,122.  As you may know, Susan Kettering Williamson ’59 will give one million dollars to the College if by May 31, 2010, 10,000 people have given to Skidmore.  Such an offer is too good to miss.  Please add your name to the list of classmates who have given.  Help both the reputation of our class and help make sure Skidmore receives such a generous gift.  When you remember what happy days we had at Skidmore, in spite of being a wartime class, it is easy to write a check.

Again, Sally and I regret that we are not able to attend the reunion and we wish those of you who can go, a very happy visit at our alma Mater.

With our very best wishes for a pleasant summer,

Jan
