
Alumni Association Board Bios
John Beckman '94 (Chair, Admissions) majored in Theatre (Design & Production) and Art History. He also trained at the Motley Theatre Design Course in London, England and the Studio School of Stage Design in Jersey City. He currently works as the Director of Exhibit and Business Development at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI), where he guides and directs the exhibit development process for the portfolio of the Museum's projects both permanent and temporary. He also manages MSI's intellectual property licensing and alternative revenue business units. Prior to MSI, John worked at Chicago Scenic Studios, Inc., managing the construction of scenery for theatre, television and special events including the Oprah Winfrey Show, DisneyQuest, and the 1996 Democratic National Convention. Prior to that, he was employed by nearby Adirondack Scenic, Inc., where we worked to create Lance Burton's theater at the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. John was also a founder and Managing Director of the award-winning Visions & Voices Theatre Company (V&V), a troupe devoted to producing new plays in Chicago's Off-Loop theatre scene. One of V&V's most successful productions, Vintage Red and the Dust of the Road, was named by National Public Radio Chicago as the #2 play of the decade after the Tony®-winning August, Osage County. John also sits on the Eastern Board of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), serves as the Chairman of Television Production for the nationally televised annual McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and he and his girlfriend own Flavour Cooking School in suburban Chicago.
Sarah Hallberg Boivin '96 (Chair, Class Council) majored in Art History with a minor in Studio Art. She holds a Masters Degree in Art History from Case University, Cleveland and is the recipient of the Pancoast Fellow Award, having studied Medieval Art and Church Building at Cambridge University, England. Upon returning to the states, she taught Art History at Akron University and held the position of Curator of Education at the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College for six years. Returning to Saratoga Springs, Sara held the position of Director of Education & Programming at The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls where she worked on a two-year project interpreting the collection and history of the museum founders. In 2011, she took a new position as Director of Membership & Programming at the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation (SSPF) and is currently working on the restoration of the Spencer Trask Memorial and Spirit of Life in Congress Park. In addition, through SSPF, Sara has the pleasure of working with the History Department faculty in creating a meaningful internship program in Public History for Skidmore students. Sara also does independent history-related writing for a local Saratoga-based magazine.
Nancy Brennan ‘72 (Chair, Friends of the Presidents) has been an active volunteer in both class and national positions. She has previously served as Class Agent, Reunion Fundraising Chair and Class President for her class. In addition, she has served as an Alumna Trustee, as an MB 107 volunteer and as a member of the college’s Business Advisory Council. In addition to her FOP role, she is currently a member of the Awards Committee.
Professionally, Nancy has held executive positions at Travelers Insurance Company, at Hartford Financial Services Group and at MedRisk, Inc. She holds a Masters degree from Rensselaer, and recently successfully completed the Nonprofit Leadership Program at the University of Connecticut. She currently provides strategic consulting for nonprofits in her community.
David A. Castle (Alumnus Trustee) is President of Branford Castle, Inc. and President and CEO of Branford Chain, Inc. In these positions he manages long-term Castle family control investments in small to medium-sized businesses engaged in manufacturing, distribution and consumer services. He also pursues additional, similar companies for leveraged acquisition.
Prior to his involvement with the Branford companies, he was a Regional Director for the Santa Fe Steakhouse restaurant chain and previously was a Risk Management Specialist with GE Capital/Monogram Bank. He is a board member of Branford Castle, Inc., Branford Chain, Inc., BQK Holdings, Inc. (formerly Jered Industries, Inc.), Carmel Car & Limousine Service, CMP Global Ltd, Horizon Investments Ltd, and American Condenser & Coil LLC. He was formerly a board member of Land 'N' Sea Distributing, Inc., Luther's Bar-B-Q, Inc., and E-Mon LLC.
Steven M. Cohen ’72 (Chair, Awards) majored in Government. He also earned a J.D. from Hofstra Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review, and holds an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri. Prior to becoming Chair of the Awards Committee, he served for three years as a committee member.
Mr. Cohen was a hedge fund portfolio manager and executive for more than 25 years. After practicing law for four years in corporate litigation, he began his investment career in 1981. During the 1980s he was a general partner of Halcyon Investments, a private specialized equity limited partnership. For more than ten years he was a general partner and chief investment officer of Kellner DiLeo Cohen & Company, a NYSE-member multi-strategy hedge fund whose investors included endowments, pension funds, and investable index funds, as well as high net worth individuals. During his time as a money manager, Mr. Cohen was a frequent guest on CNBC and Bloomberg Television and his comments appeared often in BusinessWeek and The Wall Street Journal. In 2008 he established Maple Hill Advisors LLC, an independent advisor to institutional brokerage organizations serving various hedge funds.
Mr. Cohen is a member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, New York, and is a member of the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
He and his wife Laura are the parents of Daniel Cohen, Class of 2010.
Gail M. Dudack ’70 P’11 (President) is the managing director of Dudack Research Group, an independent institutional research firm that provides economic, fundamental, quantitative, and technical strategy and tools to mutual funds, hedge funds, and private money managers. Ms. Dudack was chief U.S. investment strategist for UBS AG as well as its predecessor firms from 1987 to 2000. She was a long-time panelist on PBS’ “Wall Street Week” and is currently seen/heard on Bloomberg TV/Radio. She has contributed to several documentaries and books on the stock market and is featured in “Bull! A History of the Boom, 1982-1999” by Maggie Mahar (Harper Business 2003) and in “The Heretics of Finance” by Andrew W. Lo and Jasmina Hasanhodzic (Bloomberg Press 2009). Ms. Dudack is the current president of the Skidmore Alumni Association and a current trustee and past chair of the Securities Industry Institute, a SIFMA board.
Natasha Fahey ’07 (Chair, Athletics) currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts, where she works for a large international law firm. Natasha is also pursuing her MBA at Babson College part-time, and is scheduled to graduate in Spring 2015. While at Skidmore, Natasha was a two-sport varsity athlete—a member of the Women’s Field Hockey and Women’s Lacrosse teams. Natasha also played on the club Women’s Ice Hockey team and was the 2007 Class Secretary, as well as an SGA Senator-at-large. During the summers at Skidmore, Natasha interned in the United States Senate in Washington D.C., and also the Governor’s office in Connecticut. She graduated as a double major in Economics and Government. Natasha also worked in the hospitality industry at the Ritz-Carlton, and worked for a long time in retail at J.Crew part-time. Janey Gubow '81 (Vice President, Programming) is the President of JAG Entertainment & Media Group. She established, JAG in 1993, which is a broadcast public relations firm specializing in producing satellite and radio media tours, video news releases and media events, as well as buying celebrity talent. Recent clients include: AutoZone, Build-A-Bear Workshops, Campbell’s, ConAgra, Energizer, Healthy Choice, Johnson’s Baby, KFC, Kraft Foods, Pedigree, Pfizer, Sears, and Taco Bell just to name a few. In the winter, Gubow is a certified professional ski instructor with the Ski & Snowboard Schools of Aspen/Snowmass. She is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. In 2011, Gubow was honored by the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club (AVSC) with the distinguished Bob Beattie Award as the top AVSC pro for her dedication to the program and devotion to the local kids.
She began her career in 1982 at the National Broadcasting Company in their executive training program, as a NBC page. She was then promoted to the production staff of Saturday Night Live. From 1984 to 1992 Gubow was one of the leading talent agents in New York City, working with Cunningham, Escott, Dipene Talent Agency, and Abrams Artists & Associates.
Gubow received a Bachelors of Science degree from Skidmore College in 1981, where she graduated with honors in business marketing and a minor in studio art. She is a member of the International Radio and Television Society. Gubow was featured in Newsweek magazine and has appeared on both CNNfn and CNBC. She was appointed to the Skidmore College Alumni Board of Directors as Vice President and also serves as her Class President as well as the reunion co-chair for her alma mater. She also serves on the board of directors of GrassRoots TV in Aspen, CO. Gubow splits her time between New York City and Aspen, CO.
Sibyl Waterman Haley, '71 (Chair, Nominating) lives in Portland, ME with her two Golden Retrievers, and works in Senator Olympia Snowe's office. Originally from Iowa, she came a long way from home for college and it was a life-altering experience. Her four years at Skidmore greatly enriched her, leading to a job in the Admissions Office for several years after graduation. Traveling around the country to "sell" the College reinforced and enhanced her allegiance to Skidmore, and in the ensuing years she has been a very active alumna. She has held a variety of volunteer posts: Maine Club President, Class Secretary, Class Agent, AAC, Fund Chair, REGPAC member (Chair, Reunion Giving), National FOP Chair, and four terms (including the current one) on the Alumni Board, with one as Alumna Trustee. She has been active in all 1971 reunion activities, and received the Outstanding Service Award in 2006. Her passion for Skidmore is a driving one in her life, and she is still spreading that Skidmore message zealously. She is delighted that her nephew graduated in 1996 and that two cousins are current students.
Nancy Hamilton (Alumna Trustee) has a national practice concentrating on First Amendment law, intellectual property, and complex commercial litigation. Ms. Hamilton has been named among the Best Lawyers of America, a “Texas Super Lawyer,” a “Top Lawyer” by H Texas Magazine, and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.Ms. Hamilton has appeared in federal and state courts in Texas, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia for clients who have included CNN; Oprah Winfrey; Dr. Phil; CBS, Inc.; The Tribune Company; and U.S. Trust.
Ms. Hamilton is a frequent writer and lecturer on trial tactics and media law, including “What to do when the Media Calls;” “Building Rapport in the Courthouse” for the Texas State Bar; “Trial Techniques” for the Media Law Resource Center Annual Conferences in 2006 and 2008; an appearance on PBS Houston’s KUHT TV program The Connection on videotaping jury deliberations; and a Texas State Bar Pattern Jury Charge project.
Kate Nedelman Herbst '02 (Vice President, Strategic Communications) majored in Government and Women’s’ Studies. She went on to study at Vermont Law School and received her J.D. in 2005. She currently works as an Assistant District Attorney in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She is the Supervising ADA at the District Court in Dedham, Massachusetts, and practices in both District Court and in Norfolk County Superior Court. She is also a member of the Motor Vehicle Homicide Team, through which she responds to motor vehicle collisions with fatalities or serious bodily injuries and assists the police in their investigation, prosecuting anyone who may be charged as a result of the collision. Kate is in court on a daily basis, and handles a variety of criminal cases, including operating under the influence, domestic violence cases, drug offenses and other violent crimes, from arraignment through trial. Prior to joining the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, Kate worked in private practice in Litchfield County, Connecticut, practicing in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury and family law. Before that, Kate spent a year as a legal research clerk for the judges of the Connecticut Superior Court. Kate lives in Braintree, Massachusetts, with her husband and daughter.
Andrew Hughes '92, (Alumnus Trustee) is currently the Principal and Founding Member of HD Advisors, whose securities are offered through Calton & Associates, Inc. Andrew has developed a career as an independent third party marketing consultant within the asset management community. Throughout a 20-year career within the financial services industry, Andrew has chosen to combine his industry knowledge, risk management skills, and personal rolodex to provide a marketing service to a handpicked client base. As an independent third party marketing consultant, he has gained access to some of the largest and most sophisticated pensions systems throughout the country. Since 2009, HD Advisors remains focused on the boutique asset management firms countrywide, that have carved their specific niche within the financial marketplaces of private equity and hedge funds. HD Advisors, through its broker dealer relationship, continues to successfully assist its clients with their pension consultant relationships and their asset fund raising efforts.In 2005, Andrew joined the Marwood Group, an asset management firm that served as a third party marketing organization representing various asset classes, to help them launch the firms’ only private labeled institutional product. In the first 2.5 years with the firm, he helped to secure institutional clients, increase sales and branch out the New York based firm’s exposure to the Midwest, Southern and California public, corporate pensions systems, foundations and endowments. He was able to build a database that equates to over $750 BN in assets under management. Prior to joining Marwood Group, he was career insurance professional with a fourteen year history focused on middle market property, casualty, life, disability and health insurance. Joining Hiram Cohen & Son, “HCSI," a full service institutional and personal insurance broker in 1995, Andrew focused his efforts on the financial services, advertising and real estate industries. This was a natural progression after spending his first 3.5 years, at the largest privately held insurance broker of its day, Johnson & Higgins, within their fast track program of their Middle Market and Healthcare division.
As a graduate of Skidmore College, in Saratoga Springs, NY and former division III lacrosse player, who won honors as defensive MVP in 1992. He is currently assisting as a coach to the Brooklyn Crescent Lacrosse Association. Andrew currently serves a member of Skidmore Colleges Board of trustees as an Alumni member, its Alumni Board of trustees; the Alumni Admission Team and is Co –Fund Chair for his graduating class. He has also served as a member of board of trustees and alumni board for Portledge School, a college preparatory school based in Locust Valley, NY, from 2002 to 2009. In 2007, was elected as a board member of National Association of Securities Professional, NY chapter – NASP-NY and served as the New York chapters Vice President until 2011. NASP is meant to continue the strides that women and people of color have made within the financial community and help to provide an educational tool for our youth who are interested in the financial industry. Andrew is Series 7 and 63 licensed and retains his dual license as a Property/Casualty and Life/Accidental Health broker. He is married with three children and resides in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Keirnan Conroy Klosek '95 (Chair, Alumni Events) majored in business and minored in studio art. After working in advertising, marketing and PR, she returned to business school to earn her MBA. She opened her Boston-based photography studio in 2002 focusing on wedding, special event and portrait photography. Since graduating Keirnan has been an active volunteer at Skidmore as co-president of both the New York City and Boston Alumni Clubs and her alumni class president. Keirnan is also the metro-Boston area coordinator and volunteer photographer for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, a volunteer organization that provides bereavement photography for families. She lives with her husband and three children in Newton Center MA.
Louise Mallette '74 (Chair, Career and Professional Development) As Principal of The Telic Group, Louise Mallette focuses on individual, leadership, team, and organizational assessment and development as well as managing change in the context of the “new normal.” Her clients include organizations in the not-for-profit, biotechnology, healthcare, higher education, government, and financial services sectors. Previously, as an internal business partner, she designed and delivered human resources programs and strategies for several Fortune 50 companies. In the early 80’s, she worked for Skidmore where she developed career planning programs, and media, as well as alumni networks in Boston and New York. She has also provided career transition coaching for Skidmore graduates. She is active in several Boston-area human resources organizations including the Human Resources Leadership Forum where she served on the board for five years. She formerly served on the boards of the Boston Human Resources Association, the Boston chapter of the International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruitment, and the Laboratory Safety Institute. Louise graduated from Skidmore in 1974 with a double major in Government and English and is a Certified Coach from the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara. She resides in Duxbury, Massachusetts with her husband, Paul.
Patrick McEvoy ’03 (Chair, Young Alumni Giving) is Managing Director of the International and Distressed Equities Group at Canaccord Genuity. Pat moved to New York City in the fall of 2003 from Cape Cod, MA. Through a Skidmore contact, he was given an opportunity to work on a small trading desk, where he met his current boss. For the past eight years Pat has been focused on the obscure and opaque Over the Counter Equity markets. His team trades over 8,000 stocks and preferred securities in the OTC marketplace. The team makes markets for a host of clients, both retail and institutional, committing capital at a time when many other dealers are not doing so. The primary driver of Pat’s business is the firm’s know-how in these thinly traded and obscure equities and our expertise in bankruptcies, liquidations, reorganizations, and international execution. Pat lives in Manhattan. He serves on the Skidmore Alumni Association Board of Directors as VP of Young Alumni Giving and a member of the Skidmore Friends of the Presidents National Committee.
Kim Roy '80, P '13, P'10 (Alumna Trustee) has been a Group President since 2010 for the Ralph Lauren Corporation, where she previously served as President of Lauren Brands from 2003 to 2010. Prior to joining the Ralph Lauren Corporation in 2003, Ms. Roy was the President of Ann Taylor Stores, Inc. from 2001 to 2003. From 1996 to 2001, Ms. Roy served in various senior retail and merchandising positions at Liz Claiborne, Inc., the latest being Group President for Liz Claiborne, Inc. Prior to joining Liz Claiborne, Inc., Ms. Roy held merchandising positions for Associated Merchandising Corporation and Abraham & Straus. Ms. Roy received her B.S. from Skidmore College and serves on its Board of Trustees and Alumni Association Board. Ms. Roy served as a Director on the Board of Weight Watchers International and its Audit Committee from 2008 through 2012.
She resides in Westchester with her husband, Chris and has two children, Katharine (Skidmore 2010), and Christopher (Skidmore 2013).
Adam Wald ’94 (Chair, Reunion) majored in Theater and graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art shortly after Skidmore. He has found success as a commercial voiceover actor for companies from Time Warner to McDonalds. He regularly performs on stage in New York City and in films, most notably in the internationally acclaimed “Monógomo Sucesivo” which was shot in 7 countries on 3 continents. Adam also has extensive corporate experience, having served as coordinator for Executive Education programs at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business for over 8 years. He also worked for U.N. Under-Secretary General, Shashi Tharoor as his personal and executive assistant during Dr. Tharoor’s successful run for Minister of State in India. Through his latest project, Creative Careers, Adam is helping young professionals establish personalized, step-by-step paths for employment success. With an emphasis on individualized business strategies, clients learn to create their own brand and market themselves in a competitive environment. Adam in also President of Skidmore NYC, the alumni club of the greater New York City area.
Wendy Wilson '97 (Chair, Diversity) serves as news editor for ESSENCE magazine. In this role she is responsible for assigning various in-depth feature stories as well as profiles, special reports, and commentaries for the news section. She is the former news editor for ESSENCE.com where she provided daily news coverage and content for the Web including breaking news and exclusive stories. She has interviewed some of the most prominent and notable African-American luminaries of our time including Dr. William H. Cosby, actress Viola Davis, Dr. Maya Angelou, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Rev. Al Sharpton. In October 2010, she was invited to attend the African-American Online Summit meeting at the White House where she met with several members of the Obama administration including President Barack Obama. Wilson is the recipient of the 2011 New York Association of Black Journalists award in the International coverage category for editing a story on child slavery in Ghana. She also won the 2010 New York Association of Black Journalists award in the Magazine Public Affairs category and in the Online/New Media category for Public Affairs.
After joining ESSENCE in 2005 as a staff writer, she contributed to several mainstay articles including, ESSENCE’s "25 Most Beautiful Women," "25 Best Companies," "Women of Influence," and the "12-month Home Ownership Campaign," which won the 2007 National Association of Black Journalist Award for best magazine business story.
She has sat on the advisory council for two of ESSENCE’s most inspirational events: The Essence Music Festival and the Essence Woman’s Leadership Conference. She is responsible for recruiting, hiring and managing college students for the ESSENCE Editorial Internship Program. Wilson is also the recipient of the 2001 Time Inc. President’s Award, one of the most prestigious honors awarded to company employees for her role in adding diversity initiatives to the company’s workforce. In 2012, she was appointed Chair of Diversity on the Skidmore Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Wilson is a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, where she majored in English with a concentration in creative writing. She then continued her education, graduating from New York University in 2001 with a master’s degree in Journalism. Previously, she has worked at George, InStyle and Teen People magazines.
In her free time, Wilson is an active member of Fordham United Methodist Church, which she has attended for over 30 years. She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the American Society of Magazine Editors, and is frequently asked to speak to budding young journalists about the magazine industry. She is a die-hard NY Yankees fan and has an uncanny amount of knowledge about the world of professional wrestling.
