An initiative driven by alumni for alumni – SBN (Skidmore Business Network) gives Skidmore alumni working in a broad array of professional fields a proactive and efficient way to connect and network with one another. Skidmore parents and friends are also welcome to join. Our mission is to deliver quality speakers, compelling event topics and an environment that will foster lifelong professional connections and partnerships.
Recent SBN speakers include Rich Laxer '83, CEO of GE Capital Solutions, on "Strategic Career Planning"; Nancy Harrison ’64, Private Equity Investor on “Angel Investing and Early Stage Funding”; IGA Co-Founder Darren Herman ’04 on “Leading Innovation in the New Media Space." In addition to its current regional and national Yahoo listserves, SBN LinkedIn allows members to interface within one another anytime, anyplace.
Although it is not open to current Skidmore students at large, SBN accepts a select number of rising seniors to its network via it's Fastrack Program. (Students must apply via the Office of Career Services) SBN also offers seasoned professionals a special networking venue, SBN Gold gatherings.
Founded by a group of Skidmore alumni, the first chapter opened in New York City in 2005. Due to high demand, and to the success of the model, SBN has opened chapters in Boston, San Francisco, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia, with new chapters to be launched in South Florida and Los Angeles soon.
