Archaeology Laboratory
This website was first created by Asa Snyder, Brian Danner, Elana Haimes, and Andy Ostroff (under the direction of Laurie Miroff) as part of a Spring 2003 course at Skidmore College entitled Archaeological Collections Management.
The website was designed in accordance with the Principles of Archaeological Ethics; in particular, Principle No. 7, titled Records and Preservation.
Principle No. 7 states the following: “Archaeologists should work actively for the preservation of, and long term access to, archaeological collections, records, and reports. To this end, they should encourage colleagues, students, and others to make responsible use of collections, records, and reports in their research as one means of preserving the in situ archaeological record, and of increasing the care and attention given to that portion of the archaeological collections, records, and reports.”
With this in mind, we are in the process of building a website that details the archaeological collections here at Skidmore College. This website will be an ongoing project to ensure that we have the most up to date information. It is our hope that the information on this site will be accessed by archaeologists and students alike for future research.
