Scanning Electron Microscopy Laboratory


The Robert Mahoney Laboratory is a 1,200 sq ft, 5-room, modern electron microscopy suite.  This laboratory is the focal point for electron microscopy preparation and includes the following equipment:
  • JEOL JSM 6480LV variable pressure scanning electron microscope (SEM)
  • Princeton Gamma Tech X-Ray Spectrometer  
  • Sputter coaters and a critical point dryer  
  • Two Reichert Ultracut E utramicratomes 
  • Negative and print darkrooms  
  • BalTec JFD 030 Jet Freezer  

Equipment is also available for freeze spraying, freeze slamming, freeze substitution (to 90C) and low temperature plastic embedding.
