Endowment and Annual Support

Gifts to Skidmore’s endowment provide a vital and reliable source of annual income to support students, faculty, programs and departments. Endowed funds support scholarships, professorial chairs, student opportunity funds, research, facilities, commencement awards, book awards, and so many other needs. The endowment is carefully invested and managed using only annual investment earnings from endowed funds with the principal protected in perpetuity. Endowments provide donors with the opportunity to establish permanent funds to support a particular area of interest. Endowed funds may be recognized in the name of the donor or in accordance with the donor's wishes. These funds reflect the generosity of the donor while forever supporting the advancement of Skidmore and its mission.

The Annual Fund also provides vital support to Skidmore. Every dollar is put to immediate use to ensure that Skidmore is able to attract a highly qualified and diverse student body, recruit and retain the best faculty, and provide and maintain the best facilities possible for academics, the arts, and athletics.

We are proud that our endowment and unrestricted giving now generate over $20 million each year—providing $9,000 per student beyond what tuition and fees can support. Unfortunately, that figure is still less than half of what our peers are able to provide. To be more competitive, we intend to increase these additional funds by 50 percent or more. To achieve this goal, we will need:

  • An Annual Fund that grows to $7 million over the course of the campaign
  • $10 million in support from foundations for core programs
  • To double the College's endowment by the end of the campaign
