Skidmore has steadily moved into the top tier of liberal arts colleges in America. A quick glance at our current admissions numbers reveals just how competitive a Skidmore education has become.

Skidmore is academically strong enough to go head-to-head with the leading colleges to recruit and enroll the top applicants each year. While enrolling the brightest, most talented students from an increasingly strong and ever-growing applicant pool each year is one key to our success, remaining financially competitive is the College’s biggest challenge. Year-after-year, students who would readily accept places with us are forced to go elsewhere because we simply cannot provide them with enough financial aid. The top institutions attract the best applicants by offering financial aid packages that cover the full cost of a year of college. With the costs of attending Skidmore similar to the leading colleges nationally – meeting the needs of students eligible for aid becomes more challenging every year. Aid is essential to enrolling the academically strongest and most diverse student body we can. A diverse student population is the foundation of academic excellence and a vibrant campus community. But, like everything else, the cost of “excellence” rises each year.

Creativity knows no geographic or financial boundaries. To attract the best students no matter where they are, we must provide them with the support they need to attend Skidmore and reach their full potential. That requires us to fund:

  • At least 100 new scholarships
  • More support for students from academically disadvantaged backgrounds
  • New opportunities to take part in summer academic enrichment programs
  • More financial support for internships and post-graduate fellowships
