Skidmore has steadily moved into the top tier of liberal arts colleges in America. While enrolling the brightest, most talented students from an increasingly strong applicant pool each year is one key to our success, remaining financially competitive is the College's biggest challenge.
With the current economic climate and the reality of these challenging, unsettled times, Skidmore students' financial aid needs are at an all time high. Ensuring that students can come to and stay at Skidmore is currently one of our most important priorities.
Over the last five years, Skidmore has increased its financial aid budget by 68 percent, from $16.1 million in 2003-04 to more than $27 million in 2008-09. In 2009-10 Skidmore will increase its financial-aid budget by $2 million—about 8 percent. Support from alumni, parents, and friends of the College has never been more important. A commitment to support financial aid is a bold promise to enrich the Skidmore experience and an investment in the lives of all Skidmore students.
