The Office of Community Service Programs coordinates volunteer and service-learning opportunities that help students become informed, responsible citizens. Skidmore Founder Lucy Scribner spoke of the importance of the “mind and hand” and this intersection of theory and practice is exemplified in Skidmore’s commitment to civic engagement.

Skidmore College was selected for the 2009 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. It is also a member of Campus Compact, a national coalition of college and university  presidents dedicated to promoting community service, civic engagement, and service-learning in higher education. Skidmore is profiled in the Guide to Service-Learning Colleges and Universities (Student Horizons Press).
