"SCOOP provides incoming freshmen with a great opportunity to breathe some fresh air, relax before an extremely exciting time, and, most importantly, to make friends before school even starts!"

"SCOOP allows you to spend the last sunny, summer days hiking historic trails, roasting Smor'eos by camp fire, and most importantly, making friends. Pre-orientation transforms the college adjustment process by providing incoming freshman with a common experience, insight from upperclassmen, and appreciation for upstate New York."

"SCOOP is a great experience for all those involved and an opportunity for incoming students to get a little bit of a head start on their college experience. For me, the trip set the tone for my time at Skidmore as I met many of my very best fiends on the orientation trip. It was great being able to come back to campus and have some familiar faces. I'm so happy that I took advantage of this terrific opportunity."

"My favorite memory from SCOOP is sleeping under the stars, next to a hidden lake in the Adirondack Mountains. It was unreal."

"SCOOP is an amazing opportunity that truly eases the transition into college. It combines the great outdoors with meeting new people, which just happens to be two of my favorite things. My best memories include mapo and massive burritos, goofy stories and inside jokes, and getting up at 3am to see the clear Adirondack night sky. The bonds that are formed are priceless and I can't wait to do it again!"

"SCOOP is just the first of many special and unique opportunities that you will have the chance to experience at Skidmore.  Not only is it a time to meet some of your future fellow classmates and spend time in the beautiful Adirondacks, but it will make the transition into college life much smoother.  I feel very fortunate to have had the experience, and I would urge any newcomer to Skidmore to participate!"

"SCOOP reminds me of all things wonderful. Nature, great company, relaxation, raw beauty, and Skidmore. When attending SCOOP, it is as if only these important things exist. Bonds between students are begun and continued throughout the following years of college because those students share the same fond and vivid memories. I remember sitting around the camp fire on an island, which we had canoed 6 hours to reach, and listening to everyone's story--and I remember thinking that this would be one of the best experiences of my life."

"I had so many nervous feelings about starting college, and SCOOP gave me the unique opportunity to let them all out before even starting the school year! While doing so, I had incredible experiences in the woods--from looking at a gorgeous starry sky over a lake to playing games while trekking miles through the woods to sitting around a warm campfire with my group at the end of a long day. I came back from SCOOP raving about all of the amazing people I had just met (one of whom is one of my best friends now!) and couldn't wait to come back and start at Skidmore."

"SCOOP is a great way, nay, the best way to transition into your freshman year.  It gives you the opportunity to meet a diverse and interesting bunch of people who are all in the same boat as you.  I wouldn't trade my SCOOP experiences for anything.

"SCOOP has so much to offer. Not only does it provide an outlet for all that pent up, nervous energy about starting college, but it also gives you a chance to make connections before the school year even starts. From crowded nightly lean-to's, to magic tricks, to cooking s'moritos over the fire, SCOOP is a truly unique experience that you don't want to miss."

"SCOOP is a great opportunity to meet people and make great friends before getting to school.  The experience of being in the woods together makes the connections made on SCOOP so much stronger.  For me it was an opportunity to meet my classmates and learn about the real Skidmore College from people who are genuinely excited to help you learn and grow at school."

"My favorite memory from SCOOP: laughing uncontrollably in the middle of the woods, under the stars with 7 new friends...realizing that starting my freshman year was going to be awesome.  I'm so glad I was able to do SCOOP and I'm super excited to get to be a Peer Advisor this year!"

"Transitioning to college is extremely awkward in a bunch of ways--SCOOP makes the whole process much less so.  You get a group of friends who aren't necessarily your best buds for the whole year but are definitely there for you to hang out with at the beginning until you meet more people. Plus, you get really good at icebreakers, which is good training for orientation.  SCOOP is a really fun way to meet your future classmates."

"Nervous about meeting new people? About transitioning to college? No need to! That's what SCOOP is for. My freshman year I was so freaked by the idea of coming to college. Thank God for SCOOP. A few games of 'two truths and a lie' and a round of "cyclops tag" later, my mind was made up. Skidmore was my new home, and these people would be some of my closest friends. One of my best friends to this day was my canoe partner on SCOOP. Without SCOOP, I'm not sure what I would have done; but, take my word for it.  The atmosphere, the people, the campfires, the canoes, and the memories that you will have are irreplaceable and are things that I would not trade in for all the money in the world.  Get excited for four of the most unbelievable days ever!!"

"SCOOP is one of the few times in life that you're guaranteed to have a good time.  You might be racing canoes on a river, eating cheese or meeting a new friend.  Some of the friendships you make are temporary, others are forever but all are important as you navigate freshman year.  As a PA it's my job not to direct, but try to encourage you to meet new people while also working to alleviate any apprehensions you might have about coming to Skidmore.  See you in September!"
