SCOOP Kayaking and Rafting

The first river you paddle runs through the rest of your life. It bubbles up in pools and eddies to remind you who you are.
-- Lynn Noel

Join fellow first-year students for some Adirondack fun. This outdoor program offers exciting whitewater rafting and kayaking/canoeing on Camp Little Notch's private 80 acre lake. There are plenty of hiking trails and a variety of low ropes elements we will try our hands at too. All "river" equipment is provided. Please feel free to bring your guitar, fiddle, or other musical instrument to play around the camp fire at night.

You do not need previous rafting or kayaking experience, just a desire for adventure. You will stay overnight at Camp Little Notch in Fort Edward, NY a rustic Adirondack retreat. We will stay in tent cabins for 2 nights and will provide you with an appropriate packing list. The program is staffed by a college administrator and student peer advisors. Licensed New York State guides will staff your river adventures as well.

"Deciding to do a pre-orientation was easily the best decision I made as a freshman. Starting college can be incredibly awkward and scary, but I have learned that there's nothing like a little wilderness bonding to bring people together and erase all nervous feelings! It's an experience you will never forget." Matt Walsh '13, SCOOP Peer Advisor and Coordinator for the Kayaking and Rafting Program
