Doyle Family Internship Award
The Doyle Family Internship Award has been established through the generosity of Skidmore employee Alison Doyle, her husband Michael and daughter Katie for the purpose of providing funds to assist two Skidmore students in gaining valuable work experience and help them to become more marketable in today’s competitive job market. The awards may be used for unpaid summer internships, volunteer or community service projects only.
Although The Doyle Family Internship Award is open to all students currently enrolled full time at Skidmore College, preference will be given to students who have a demonstrated financial need. The award is designed to offer students an opportunity to gain the relevant knowledge, skills, and experience required by employers. The Doyle Family Internship Award will provide two students with a total of $2500 each for a minimum of a seven week summer internship experience. Any additional costs for housing, food, and transportation will be the responsibility of the student.
The Doyle Family Internship Award cannot be combined with any other award, scholarship, stipend, or grant. Any housing, travel, and/or food allowances are acceptable and will not preclude students from receiving the award.
* Students with demonstrated high financial need who engage in a volunteer or community service project in the Saratoga Springs region may qualify for a reduced rate for on-campus housing and, in the case of credit-bearing internships, for reduced tuition.
Eligibility:
All students must be in good standing to apply for The Doyle Family Internship Award, which is defined as a 2.0 total GPA or better. Students cannot be on academic probation at the time of applying for the award. Internships, volunteer, or community service projects must be deemed by the College as an experiential educational opportunity that will add to the student’s knowledge base in their major or career field of interest. International students should check with Student Academic Services before applying to identify any requirements they need to meet to qualify for one of the awards.
Requirements:
Students will research and apply for internships, volunteer or community service projects and select those opportunities that meet their individual career goals. Career counselors are available in Career Services to assist students with the process of searching for internships, volunteer, or community service projects and/or in developing professional cover letters and resumes.
Please call Career Services, (518) 580-5790, to schedule an appointment or check the Career Services website for available drop-in hours. Students must apply for the internship, volunteer, or community service project prior to applying for The Doyle Family Internship Award. It is highly recommended that students have their resume and cover letters reviewed in Career Services prior to submitting it to employers.

Students do not need to apply for credit to receive the award. Students interested in receiving credit for the internship can access the Internship Proposal Form online or in the Dean of Studies Office (DOS) or Career Services. Please check the Dean of Studies website for Internship Guidelines and application deadlines. All students doing an internship for credit, must meet all requirements stated on the Dean of Studies Internship for Credit Application and the DOS website.
At the completion of the internship, volunteer, or community service project students will be required to write a 2 – 3 page report and a short essay that includes: class year, major/minor, home location, a full description of how the internship was secured, job responsibilities, what was learned, and how the experience will benefit them in their future career. These reports and essays will become the property of Career Services and may be posted on the Career Services website. The report will be due in Career Services no later than Friday, September 4, 2009. The students are expected to send a thank you note to their site supervisor upon completion of the internship. The students will receive final payment of the award upon completion of all of the above requirements of the internship.
