STUDY SKILLS - PREPARE FOR AND TAKING EXAMS

Most Classics courses use continuous assessment: quizzes, essays and research papers on a large scale. Nevertheless, the midterm and the three-hour final exam are still the most significant method of assessing students' performances. Although the examination room can be stressful, the ability to work under pressure and to summarize knowledge and ideas is essential to most occupations.

Examinations test all students equally under strictly regulated conditions - Skidmore College's Honor Code, summarized as "While taking this examination, I have not witnessed any wrongdoing, nor have I personally violated any conditions of the Skidmore College Honor Code."

Examinations test students' understanding of key areas of the course at the midpoint and at the end as a whole and are intentionally comprehensive in scope.

Examinations protect and exemplify academic standards.
