
Communications Resource Guide

The Department of Communications plans and implements major communications initiatives on the College’s behalf. We also support academic and administrative departments in such areas as internal communications, event promotion, media relations, and photography. Below is a short list with key contacts. Alumni Communications. We produce a fall, winter, and spring Scope magazine (mailed to nearly 30,000 alumni) and Scope Monthly (e-mailed to 14,000 alumni). Contacts: Sue Rosenberg, x5738; and Paul Dwyer, x5341.
Announcements. We’re pleased to distribute departmental announcements to all faculty and staff via Scope Weekly, transmitted every Thursday when classes are in session. Contact: Nancy Shaw, x5733.
Blogs. We encourage faculty and staff to write blogs that pertain to their professional interests or responsibilities, and we’ll be glad to set you up in a free Wordpress or Blogger account with a link to the Skidmore Web site. Contact: Dan Forbush, x5746.
Content Management System – Training/Support. Our Web team offers training and support in the use of the college’s content management system. Contacts: Jenn Crewell, x8117; Liz Katzman, x5735.
Community Relations. We support such annual community-oriented programs as Saratoga Reads, SaratogaArtsFest, Skidmore Cares, and Community Day; conduct an on-going outreach program geared toward civic organizations and community leaders; and assist in developing educational programs regarding public use of the North Woods. We maintain the Community Resource Guide and a speakers’ list for local organizations. We also produce a community edition of Scope Monthly. Contact: Bob Kimmerle, x5744.
Email Newsletters. An email newsletter is an effective and inexpensive way to stay in touch with alumni. We’ll be glad to set up an account for you in our email delivery system and help get you started. Contact: Dan Forbush, x5746.
Event Calendar. Our online Event Calendar is available to all members of the Skidmore community who are planning events. Key in details on the form you’ll find here: http://events.skidmore.edu/ecal/ (Click “Submit an Event”) Contact: Nancy Shaw, x5733.
Event Promotion. We can broadly promote your event in regional media and in Scope Weekly. Please notify us of your event six to eight weeks in advance. Contacts: Andrea Wise, x5736; Barbara Melville, x5740.
Facebook. Administrative and academic departments increasingly are creating groups and pages in Facebook . We can help you develop a Facebook strategy. Contact: Dan Forbush, x5746.
Graphic Design. If you want to be sure your publication or Web site is in keeping with the college’s graphic standard or you need other assistance with design, we can help. Contact: Mary Parliman, x5739.
Media Relations. We always appreciate tips on good stories for local, regional and national news media. We typically run such stories in Scope Monthly and Scope Weekly as well. Contact: Andrea Wise, x5736.
Photography. We can assist both in taking photos and providing images from our archive of 110,000 images. Contact: Pat Wright, x5737.
Portfolio. We’re always looking for compelling subjects for these photographic essays that run on the Skidmore home page. Contact: Pat Wright, x5737.
Promotional Items. There’s a long list of items – pens, T-shirts, water bottles, etc. – on which you may want to put the Skidmore or Thoroughbreds logo. We’re glad to assist with the design and ordering of such items. Contact: Andy Camp, x5745

Skidmore Interactive. This section of the Skidmore Web site reports on happenings in Skidmore’s online community and serves as a stepping-off point to interactions among alumni and students in Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and elsewhere on the Web. Contact: Dan Forbush, x5746.
Scope Weekly. We’re delighted to help you communicate news and announcements to faculty and staff via Scope Weekly, which we transmit every Thursday when classes are in session. News Contact: Andrea Wise, x5736. Announcements: Nancy Shaw, x5733.
