| "Religious Life Dialogues"
Time: 5:30 PM- 6:30 PM Location: Case Center: ICC The "Religious Life Dialogues" are unique conversations exploring the religious aspects of current topics. The format is a brief presentation with extensive opportunity for audience response and engagement with the speaker. Prof. Rik Scarce (Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work) will start us off thinking about the question: "Is there spirit in nature?" Long before the current climate crisis, American environmentalism has been asking us to re-examine our relationship to nature, which has been largely utilitarian. Have we really understood nature at all? The event is moderated by Rick Chrisman, Interim Director of Religious ans Spiritual Life. |

| "My Story as an African Immigrant Woman", a lecture with Project Runway alum, Korto Momolu
Time: 6:00 PM- 7:30 PM Location: Palamountain Hall: Gannett Auditorium As civil war broke out in Liberia in 1990, Korto Momolu's family decided to leave their African homeland and head West. First arriving in Canada, Korto quickly made a name for herself as a designer in Ottawa. Korto blended both traditional and new styles in her designs; she integrated the themes of her birth country while updating them to a unique, contemporary feel. She eventually moved to Arkansas to continue her dream of creating her own fashion line, and found rave reviews by winning the fan favorite award on Project Runway Season 5.In this incredible lecture, Korto discusses her family's immigration, the impact it had on her life (and clothing), and how she continues to be a role model for many people (including African American women). Korto's clothing designs are a rich metaphor for how many cultures attempt to blend the traditional while looking to the future to provide a better life. Following the lecture, Korto will host the "Experience Africa" fashion and culture show in the Spa at 8pm. |
