Skidmore is welcoming nearly 600 families of students for the annual fall Celebration Weekend, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 16-18.

Mike Sposili, director of alumni affairs and college events, noted that as of Oct. 14, the college has registered 587 families for a total of 1,853 guests expected during the weekend.  The event is designed to give visitors a glimpse of campus life, with activities that highlight academic and co-curricular offerings.

Sposili is pleased by the response to this year’s invitation, particularly since all information regarding the weekend was provided electronically, a push toward “green” communications that proved effective.

While communications were slightly non-traditional this year, the program retains a number of family favorites, including the following:

• the highly popular mini-college, featuring lectures by Skidmore faculty

• the "Creative Thought Matters" pumpkin-carving contest, for artists of all ages

• Thoroughbred athletics, including women's soccer and field hockey games

• an on-campus photo booth, to capture the weekend's memories

Other highlights this year will include a walking tour of the College's North Woods, a career networking workshop sponsored by the Office of Career Services, the President's Hour conversation with President Philip A. Glotzbach, an Outing Club-sponsored hike at Hadley Mountain, and events at the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, where "Lives of the Hudson" is currently being exhibited.

One special event on Saturday evening is the sixth annual Friends of Skidmore Athletics Benefit and Hall of Fame induction, featuring guest speaker Christopher Henry, a 1991 Skidmore graduate, who is director of player development for the National Football League.  For more details on the event, please visit the Skidmore College web site. Saturday night will also feature the traditional "Under the Big Top," with entertainment by Skidmore student performers.
