2007-08 Merit Scholarship Results

The merit scholarship and fellowship program at Skidmore College introduces students to many undergraduate and post-graduate opportunities available to them.  Awards provide opportunities for international study, research, independent projects as well as extended leadership opportunities, graduate school funding. 

Michael Ennis-McMillan, Dean of Studies, is the institutional representative for scholarships.  Chris McGill, Student Academic Development Coordinator, works closely with students and the Dean to identify and assist applicants throughout the process.

  • STAR Fellowships
    • Master's and doctoral level students in environmentally related fields of study
    • Master's level students receive support for max of two years
    • Doctoral students may be supported for a max of three years with funding available, over a period of four years.  Provides up to $37,000 per year of support

    • Master's and doctoral level students in environmentally related fields of study

FOR STUDENTS IN THEIR JUNIOR AND/OR SENIOR YEAR OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDY
  • GRO Undergraduate Fellowships
    • For bachelor level students in environmentally related fields of study
    • Eligible students receive support for their junior & senior years and an internship at an EPA facility during the summer between their junior and senior years.
    • Fellowships provide up to $17,000 per year of academic support & up to $7,500 of internship support for the three-month summer period

  • Scholarship was established for undergraduates in order to foster and encourage excellence in science and mathematics.
  • Scholarship awards $7,000 for students who have demonstrated interest in and commitment to a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering disciplines that contribute to technological advances in the United States.

FOR STUDENTS IN THEIR FINAL YEAR OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS COMPETITION
  • Up to 174 (87 for men and 87 for women) postgraduate scholarships are awarded annually
  • Awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically
  • One-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall, winter, and spring sports
  • Each sports season there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 for women.
  • Scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants
  • Nominations happen at 3 points each year

  • Scholarships provide grants for up to two years of graduate study in the United States for New Americans (a resident alien; naturalized US citizen; or child of parents who are both naturalized citizens)
  • Fellowship covers a $20,000 maintenance grant and one-half the tuition costs
  • Students can pursue graduate degrees in any professional field or scholarly discipline in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences. The Fine and Performing Arts are included.
