"Who's Afraid of Self-Reliance?" - The Jon Ramsey Honors Forum Lecture
Location: Palamountain Hall: Gannett Auditorium
Date: 12/01/2011
Time: 5:15 PM - 6:15 PM
Speaker: Linda M. Hall, Asst. Prof. of English
Description:
"Who's Afraid of Self-Reliance?" is the title of the Jon Ramsey Honors Forum Lecture to be delivered by Linda Hall, assistant professor of English.
In her talk Hall will consider the comments of two noted thinkers: the late critic Edwin Denby, who once asserted, "Education is a lazy way of learning"; and Ralph Waldo Emerson, who said, "The things taught in schools and colleges are not an education but the means of an education." Are they both right? On Dec. 1, Hall will explain why the answer is ultimately up to the student.
