Documentary Film Showing: "Vincent Who?"
Location: Murray-Aikins Dining Hall: 2nd Floor
Date: 11/07/2011
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Speaker: Curtis Chin
Description:
In 1982, Vincent Chin was murdered in Detroit by two white autoworkers, who had mistakenly thought that he was Japanese. This event galvanized Asian Americans around the country to form a movement to demand civil rights. As for his killers, Ronald Ebens and Michael Nitz, they served no jail time, and were sentenced to three years’ probation and a $3,000 fine. As for Judge Kaufman, who made this verdict, he defended his verdict saying, "These weren’t the kind of men you send to jail… You don't make the punishment fit the crime, you make the punishment fit the criminal."
