Targeted Killings: The Law & Philosophy of 21st Century Warfare
Location: Ladd Hall: 307
Date: 03/21/2012
Time: 4:30 PM
Speaker: Dr. Jens Ohlin, Associate Professor at Cornell Law School
Description:
Whether by Hellfire missile fired from a Predator drone, or a commando raid by Navy Seals, targeted killings are remaking the landscape of 21st century warfare. Although praised for their deadly efficiency by their champions, these targeted killings raise urgent legal and philosophical issues.
In this lecture, Cornell Law School Professor Jens Ohlin (Skidmore Class of '96) will probe these questions: Are these acts of war or police measured? Are terrorists more like soldiers or civilians? Does the war against al-Qaeda have a battlefield?
