Description:
The politically motivated pornographic caricatures that attacked queen Marie-Antoinette during the French Revolution have received considerable attention from scholars in a range of fields. This lecture examines the images in a new light by asking how, and to what ends, their depictions of masculinity gone awry served to criticize the Marquis de Lafayette, a prominent political figure and one of the queen's reputed lovers.
