We are all terrorists: From the Tarnac 9 to SHAC 7, Counter Terrorist Policies in France and the USA

Location: Palamountain Hall: Gannett

Date: 03/25/2010

Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Speaker: Steve Best , Bill NOT BORED !

Description:
What are we talking about when we talk about counter-terrorism? Have you heard of the Tarnac 9 Case? Of SHAC 7? Of the "Green Scare"? Do you wonder why it is so hard to be an environmental activist or a political radical? Steve Best, PhD at the University of El Paso, and animal rights activist and Bill NOT BORED!, a web-zine editor, and free lance author, will talk about several illuminating cases, and reveal the other side of "counter-terrorism". They will tell us about the laws that label activists or off-the-grid communities as "terrorist", "organized group", and "criminal association for the purposes of terrorist activity." It seems that anyone questioning the order of the world might soon be considered a terrorist.
