Speaker: Kareen Thorpe '02

Description:
Kareen graduated Skidmore in 2002 with a Bachelor's in Linguistics. She then participated in the Teach English in China program, lived and taught English in China at two different Chinese universities for 2 years. She was then invited to become a Thomas R. Pickering Fellow of the Department of State and received a Master's in International Affairs at American University.

Kareen is a Diplomat (Foreign Service Officer) and has worked at the Department of State in various capacities including at our U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa, Congo, U.S. Embassy Kigali, Rwanda and she just returned from a tour at our U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. Kareen is slated to be the Public Affairs Officer at our U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg and will be leaving Spring 2010. Kareen is competent in Kiswahili, French, Chinese, and Spanish.
