Maxwell Ruby ![]() Visiting Assistant Professor, 2005 Alumni |
Education:
Ph.D., University of California, 2010B.S., Skidmore College, 2005
Classes Taught:
EX 242 - Principles Of Nutrition For Health and Performance
EX 311 - Physiology Of Exercise
Current Research Interests:
Professor Ruby's research focuses on the development of metabolic disease. The endocannabinoid (EC) system regulates food intake and energy metabolism. Cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) antagonists show promise in the treatment of obesity and its metabolic consequences. Professor Ruby has used chemical models of endocannabinoid elevation to elucidate downstream effects of CB1 activation. Professor Ruby has also administered several lifestyle intervention trials aimed to reduce cardiometabolic risk factors and has a keen interest in preventing disease without pharmacological intervention.
