The Exercise Science Major at Skidmore College
The major in Exercise Science leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. The Exercise Science Major comprises courses in exercise science and physical activity. The major is designed to prepare students for careers and work in exercise and sport sciences, and allied fields. The Exercise Science major serves as the academic foundation for careers in such burgeoning fields as physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, cardiac rehabilitation, chiropractic medicine, sports medicine, and physician's assistance.
Students specifically interested in allied health professions (e.g. physical therapy) at the graduate level should consult with the Chair of the Department of Exercise Science, Dance, and Athletics so that necessary biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and other prerequisites become part of the four-year curriculum plan. Students who major in Exercise Science must:

- Fulfill the general college requirements as listed in the college catalog
- Complete nine courses in Exercise Science
- Complete two physical activity courses
- Complete CH 103 or CH 105 or CH 110 (preferably in the freshman year) and
- Have CPR certification by the end of the second year
