Faculty Goals

Students' Academic Future
Help students determine their academic and co-curricular goals at the College. This begins with the Reflection and Projection letter - the Skidmore RAP - which faculty ask students to compose and send their your mentor in August. The RAP is a personal statement which conveys educational experience so far as well as goals for the future that will make good use of a college education.

Course Guidance
Provide guidance as students choose their courses each semester. Mentors will help make sure that students are making progress towards fulfilling graduation requirements and assist them in making informed choices about courses that will excite, challenge and inspire.

Responsibility
Assist students in managing academic responsibilities - for example, using time effectively to excel in courses, or understanding academic integrity and responsibility.

Guidance Toward a Major
Help students choose an academic major. Faculty mentors will help students identify their academic interests and determine which major best brings into focus their academic goals.

Study Abroad
Steer students towards study abroad opportunities. Many Skidmore students spend a semester or year abroad and find the experience in another culture one of the most transformative aspects of their college education. Mentors can help students select from over 100 programs which Skidmore students attend around the world.

Post-Graduation

Assist in preparing for the next steps after Skidmore - pursuing graduate study, planning the first steps towards a career .

General Advice

Direct students towards other resources at the College. There are academic departments and student services available to provide information and support, and faculty mentors can steer students to the appropriate individuals and assistance.
