ADD/ADHD
Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition marked by hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and distractibility. It can affect a person’s ability to concentrate, stay organized, follow directions, or sit still for even short periods of time. Most cases of ADD/ADHD are diagnosed before the age of 18 but some people develop the condition later in life.
There is no single diagnostic test for ADD/ADHD, but a therapist’s interview and a review of family history is the starting place for people experiencing symptoms that are interfering with their daily functioning. ADD/ADHD is usually treated with medication that aids concentration and reduces restlessness.
If you feel you may be suffering from ADD/ADHD you can make an appointment at the Counseling Center or at Health Services. While these campus resources do not offer ADD testing on site and are unable to prescribe medication, they can provide assistance in finding a resource in the community.
