FAQs

How do I allow popups?

You will always want to allow popups from both the cms.skidmore.edu and the cmsauthor.skidmore.edu servers.   But first, make sure that you are logging into the server at http://cmsauthor.skidmore.edu, and trying to do all of your edits on that same server.  If your web address says http://cms.skidmore.edu, you've slipped into the read-only server and will have to relocate.

IE 7 (Remember, CMS requires IE 7 or higher)

Look under Tools for Pop Up Blocker, and choose Pop Up Blocker Settings.  Type or paste in the address cms.skidmore.edu and click Add.  Repeat for cmsauthor.skidmore.edu.

Firefox for PC (remember, CMS requires Firefox 3.0 or higher)

Look under Tools for Options, and select the Content tab on the popup that appears.  Click the Exceptions button next to the Block Popup Windows option.  Type or paste in the address cms.skidmore.edu and click Add.  Repeat for cmsauthor.skidmore.edu.

Firefox for Mac (remember, CMS requires Firefox 3.0 or higher)

Look under the Firefox menu for Preferences, and select the Content tab on the popup that appears. Click the Exceptions button next to the Block Popup Windows option.  Type or paste in the address cms.skidmore.edu and click Add.  Repeat for cmsauthor.skidmore.edu.

Google/Yahoo Toolbars

These types of toolbars are popular addons for many browsers. Unfortunately, they often have an additional layer of popup blocker protection, which can interfere with CMS editing.  Study the picture below.  If you have the Google (or Yahoo) toolbar installed, it will appear as an extra bar in your browser, similar (but not always exactly) to the one shown.  If your popup blocker icon indicates that you have been blocking popups, click on the icon to allow popups for the site that you are currently visiting (cmsauthor.skidmore.edu, for example).

Some users have had to disable or uninstall the Google/Yahoo toolbar in order to properly edit CMS pages, while other users find that turning off the popup blocker feature is enough to allow them to use the toolbar without interfering with anything else.  If you have issues with the Google toolbar addon to your web browser, the Help Desk can assist you in uninstalling software.
