Child Development and Learning
Prof. Ruth Andrea Levinson
The ED200 Honors Forum workshop will provide a small group of students from ED200 with an intensified opportunity to explore child development in the greater depth of an active and a reflective experience. Honors Workshop students work with a child for a sustained period of time on a weekly basis (1-2 hrs per week). Field placements may involve working with elementary students who are being home-schooled, or working with "at-risk" students in the mentoring program, or tutoring in after-school programs, or assisting with preschool children in Headstart. Students will keep an electronic journal. The class will use an on-line discussion group format to process and to reflect upon their own and their classmates' weekly experiences. The assigned readings may also be utilized in these "chat room" discussions. Class will meet on a bi-weekly basis. The final written product for the course will be a case study report which will include an evaluation of the student's educational intervention with a child.
