Honors and Prizes

• DEPARTMENTAL HONORS

For students entering Skidmore Fall 2011 and beyond

To be recommended for honors in history, a major must meet the college requirement for honors of a cumulative grade point average of 3.000, and a GPA in the major of 3.650 or higher.

For students who entered before Fall 2011
To be recommended for honors in history, a major must meet the college requirement for honors of a cumulative grade point average of 3.000, a GPA in History of 3.500, and must receive at least an A- on his or her History Colloquium paper (HI-375) or the final paper in any 300-level course designated a research (R) course.

• PHI ALPHA THETA
  Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society in history, was organized in 1921 and the Alpha Delta Tau Chapter was established at Skidmore College on April 20, 1989. The charter members consisted of students Matthew G. Berger, Francis Paul Buckley III, Laura Anne Gilman, Haidee Lorrey, Eric C. Rath, and Kimberly A. Shapiro, and Professors Daniel Balmuth, William E. Brynteson, Joel Gordon, Richard Bach Jensen, Allen F. Kifer, Tadahisa Kuroda, Patricia-Ann Lee, Jennifer Delton and Margaret Pearson. Tillman Nechtman serves as faculty advisor to the chapter.
  
  

• THE LEE HISTORY PRIZE
  Established in honor of Gladys and Gordon Lee, parents of Patricia-Ann Lee, Professor of History, who joined the faculty in 1967, and awarded to an outstanding student in English or European history.

• ALICE FARWELL WARREN PRIZE
  Established in honor of Alice Farwell Warren, Professor of History 1937-1962, by an anonymous donor, and awarded annually to an outstanding student in History.
