Skidmore College Education and Development
Education and development at Skidmore begins with our New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. All new community members (Administrators, Faculty, Support Staff and Union employees) are invited and encouraged to attend this half day program. The design of the program enables new employees to explore life at Skidmore through a variety of departmental presentations. The purpose of this program is to provide an overview of the College and the opportunity to meet with other members of the Skidmore community.
In addition to the NEO, a variety of educational programs are offered throughout the year. These programs are geared toward staff development. Some of the recent topics include:
- Assessment Interviewing
- Communication
- Delegation
- Management Dynamics
- Meeting Management
- Project Management
- Teamwork
- Time Management
As part of building community relationships across campus, Human Resources also hosts informative community gatherings ranging from coffee chats to luncheons. A full list of programs can be accessed by clicking the HR Program Calendar link in the right-hand navigation box. Your suggestions for new programs or possible presenters are always welcome.
Learn on the Go
Human Resources is happy to announce a new segment of educational and development sessions added to our traditional programs. Our sessions now include the new Learn on the Go series, which are lunchtime programs that run from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. These are brown bag lunch programs. Human Resources will provide the dessert.
These programs will include an educational DVD followed by an open discussion. These programs also include handouts addressing each program topic. If you are interested in learning more about these programs, please click the HR Program Calendar link in the right-hand navigation box on this page.
Cancellation Policy
Please note, although there is currently no participation fee for programs offered or delivered through Human Resources, due to the significant cost of these programs, a no-show class cancellation fee of $100.00 will be applied if you register but fail to cancel without 48 hours notice (given within the work week) or fail to attend the session without any notification. This fee will automatically be charged to your department's budget.
Often, many of our programs reach their maximum attendance capacity and Skidmore community members, who were unable to register for a program, ask to be placed on a wait list. When you are unable to attend a program, providing us with 48 hours notice during the work week will allow us to fill your slot with someone on the wait list.
