Global Health for Social Change Internship (GHSC)
The Global Health for Social Change Internship is unlike any other summer program you may be considering. This unpaid field placement program is an opportunity for you to be embedded with a local or international public health NGO—while experiencing total cultural immersion by living with a host family. Being embedded with the local NGOs will help you discover:

• How NGO stakeholders help to decrease the burden of disease by supporting local health systems
• What role NGOs play in development of a community by boosting health systems
• How health is a critical driver of US policy toward South Africa and why health diplomacy is vital to the bi-lateral relationship between our countries

SIT Ghana: Social Transformation and Cultural Expression
A country of approximately 20 million people, Ghana boasts an outstanding artistic heritage that manifests itself in all aspects of cultural performance and craftworks.  Students explore this rich heritage through deep and meaningful engagement with Ghanaian scholars, artists, dancers, musicians, painters, sculptors, weavers, writers, and other in-country experts.  Interdisciplinary coursework, held in the classroom and in the field, reveals to students the historical and contemporary circumstances that have shaped Ghanaian society and the artistic outputs of this complex and highly diverse West African country.

SIT Morocco: Multiculturalism and Human Rights
This program examines human rights, religion, politics, and cultural diversity in Morocco contextualized within the broader region and beyond. A particular focus on gender issues includes looking at women’s roles in contemporary Moroccan society and Moroccan feminism.
Students examine current challenges shaping Morocco and the Arab world: authoritarian rule, democratic transition, economic liberalization, civil society, Islamic movements, and the constitutional reforms following the 2011 Arab Spring.

SIT South Africa: Multiculturalism and Human Rights
South Africa is truly a multicultural society, with 11 national languages and numerous ethnic groups. While South Africans have seen tremendous change since the first multiracial elections in 1994, they anticipate a long road before achieving the stated goal of equality.
Cape Town, the program base, was one of the first South African cities to voluntarily promote racial integration. In a typical semester, students complete four homestays —each providing the opportunity to meet and interact with South Africans from different geographic and ethnic backgrounds. The strong emphasis on the homestay as experiential learning complements lectures, discussions, field-based assignments, and excursions to provide a multidisciplinary analysis of the country.

SIT Uganda: Development Studies
Uganda is a nation of diverse landscapes and wildlife, political and economic vitality, intellectual vibrancy, entrepreneurial innovations, and development debates. This program introduces students to the political, economic, and environmental issues surrounding development in Uganda. Students learn the historical context in which current development is taking place and study the theory of development and topics such as Uganda’s method of social service delivery, indigenous knowledge, and resource allocation.

ProWorld – International Service Internships
ProWorld offers one- to six-month long internship placements in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We provide students and recent graduates with hands-on internships in key functional areas such as education and teaching, clinical/public health and environment management, as well as institutional areas like microfinance, community development, journalism and NGO management. ProWorld participants gain work experience within the context of international development and our program has improved the lives of thousands of community members worldwide.
