About Information Technology

Mission Statement

We value our role in the Skidmore community. Our mission is to work in partnership with members of the community to empower our collective use of information technologies. Our goal is to provide excellent technology leadership, support, and service in fulfilling Skidmore’s Mission and Strategic Plan.

We provide support and assistance for students, faculty and staff at Skidmore College. IT consists of five divisions: Academic Technologies, User Services, Enterprise Systems, Media Services and Technical Services.

Academic Technologies

Academic Technologies assists faculty, staff and students in strengthening their technical skills with a variety of technologies, while supporting their broader pedagogical goals. We provide individual and group instruction on a wide range of software applications (Ex: Blackboard, iMovie, Dreamweaver, etc.) and innovative instructional tools, such as personal response systems and Smart technologies.

Enterprise Systems

Enterprise Systems is responsible for Skidmore's administrative databases used by offices and departments across the campus. Enterprise Systems supports the gathering, processing and interpreting of information relative to the administrative tasks that support the academic mission of Skidmore College.

Media Services

Media Services is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of all technology classrooms, as well as the distribution of audiovisual equipment for all campus functions.  Media Services offers media production services, and operates a Media Lab equipped for scanning, CD-R and DVD-R burning, graphics production, poster printing, and video and audio editing.

Network & Technical Services

The Technical Services group maintains and enhances the Skidmore voice and network services and infrastructure. This group also manages the Internet connections and associated hardware.

Strategic Planning & Communication

Strategic Planning & Communication coordinates major IT communication initiatives and is responsible for ensuring timely dissemination of information within the department and to the greater Skidmore community. This group provides direction and vision in the creation of IT policy and facilitates effective management of IT projects crossing functional groups.

User Services

The role of User Services is to provide campus-wide desktop computing support. It includes areas and initiatives such as the IT Help Desk and the annual computer deployment project.
