IT Email Policies
Withdrawals: The registrar notifies the help desk as soon as students withdraw from Skidmore College. Then the help desk sends an email notice that the student's account will be closed in 2 weeks.
Alumni: Email accounts are maintained for as long as Microsoft continues to provide our mail service. Your login and primary address will change to firstname.lastname@example.org but your previous address, email@example.com will also continue to deliver email to your Inbox.
Beginning with Class 2010, an new, empty account was setup on outlook.com and both the alumni address and the regular address deliver to that Inbox.
Beginning with Class 2011, all mail will be transferred to the alumni server on outlook.com sometime after graduation.
Faculty and Other Employees
Based on information provided by human resources, an automatic notice is generated weekly for employees whose relationship with the college has ended. The help desk sends an warning email and the account is closed 30 days later.
If you are an official retiree of the college, you may keep your email account for life. Some retirees log in with firstname.lastname@example.org and some log in with email@example.com
Automatic Emptying of Deleted Items
Students: After an item has been in your Deleted Items folder for 14 days, the Exchange email server will remove them.
Employees: After an item has been in your Deleted Items folder for 30 days, the Exchange email server will remove them.
