Microsoft's Home Use Program (HUP) for Faculty and Staff

The Microsoft Home Use Program, once referred to as the Work-at-Home program for Skidmore faculty and staff, helps to increase employee productivity and maximize the value of the college’s Microsoft Office System investment by enabling employees to work from home.

For $9.95, the Home Use Program gives eligible employees an immediate download of a licensed copy of Microsoft Office to install and use on one home computer. Essentially each employee with a computer assigned for the purpose of doing their job is eligible to purchase Microsoft Office 2008 for the MAC or Office 2007 for the PC (not both). This does not include temporary or contractual employees, but covers all permanent full and part-time employees with an institutionally-owned computer assigned to their position.

If you have taken advantage of the Work-at-Home program in the past and currently have the most recent version of Microsoft Office, there is then no need to consider taking part in HUP until a point in time when another version upgrade is made available. However, once an employee has purchased the most recent version of Office via HUP, they are not eligible again to purchase additional copies of Office until Microsoft releases a new version of Office. For example if you were to purchase Microsoft Office 2007 in September 2009, you are considered ineligible to buy through HUP until for example Office 2010 is made available for purchase in mid-2010.

As in the past, prior to making the purchase, each employee is required to submit a request for approval for eligibility at:

http://cms.skidmore.edu/it/computing/software.cfm

How Eligible Employees Can Obtain This HUP Benefit

Employees can order software online at the Microsoft HUP Web site. To access this Web site, they must use the unique program code provided by the college’s Software Administrator (softwareadmin@skidmore.edu). Please retain this program code and do not distribute it to others who have not yet submitted a request for eligibility.

Upon approval, eligible Skidmore faculty and staff will receive an email that states the following:

You are now eligible to participate in Microsoft's Software Assurance Home Use Program (HUP). This program enables you to get a licensed copy of most Microsoft® Office desktop PC applications to install and use on your home computer.

Under the Home Use Program, you and our other employees who are users of qualifying applications at work (e.g. Office 2007 Enterprise) may acquire a licensed copy of the corresponding Home Use Program software (e.g. Office 2007 Enterprise) to install and use on a home computer. You may continue using HUP software while you are under our employment and as long as the corresponding software you use at work has active Software Assurance coverage.

Please note that some product and language versions may not be available at the time you place an order. For up-to-date information on the availability of Home Use Program software, please visit http://microsoft.com/licensing.

To access the Microsoft Home Use Program Web site:

1. Go to https://hup.microsoft.com/.
2. Select the country to which you want your order to be shipped to and choose the language for viewing the order Web site.
3. Enter your college e-mail address and insert the following program code: (to be provided by your Microsoft Software Administrator)
Note: This program code is assigned to our organization for our sole use in accessing this site. You may not share this number with anyone within or outside of Skidmore College.
4. An email will then be sent to your Skidmore College email address, providing you with a link to make your purchase online.
4. Place your order online for Office Enterprise 2007 for Windows or Office 2008 for MAC, and if you choose the backup DVD option for an additional $12, it will be shipped to the location you have chosen. Please note that a fulfillment fee will be charged to cover packaging, shipping, and handling costs. Otherwise for $9.95 you will be provided with a download and the corresponding license/product key.

We trust you will enjoy this benefit and look forward to your participation.
