Internships
The Law and Society Program encourages experiential learning experiences, such as internships. It is here that students get a taste of the real world, discover if their academic interests might translate into a satisfying and meaningful professional life, and observe directly whether what they learn in the classroom can be applied to life beyond the ivory tower.
Law and Society minors are expected to complete one internship or independent study, and to collectively reflect on their experiences during the senior capstone seminar. This guide provides guidelines and necessary forms to complete an internship.
Although Skidmore allows for 6 and 9 credit internships, the Law and Society Program encourages 3 credit internships, undertaken either during the summer or during the academic year. 3 Credit Internships must include at least 130 contact hours. Contact hours are defined as hours actually spent on site performing the activities of an intern. Internships may be completed anywhere off-campus, even overseas during a semester abroad.
