Skidmore Brass and Wind Ensembles
Students may perform in small chamber ensembles for High or Low Brass, Flute Ensemble, or Woodwind Ensembles, each offering students opportunities to explore chamber ensemble repertoire. The make-up of each chamber ensemble is determined by student performance levels (by audition) and may include from 3 or more players. The groups rehearse 1 hour per week and take part in a final concert at the end of the term. Many of the groups rehearse and perform outside of their class time as well. Students interested in Wind Chamber Ensemble or Flute Ensemble should contact Jan Vinci to arrange for an audition either at pre-registration or the beginning of the semester. Students interested in Brass Ensembles should contact Patrice Malatestinic.
In the fall of 2011 a new Skidmore wind ensemble was offered, originally called the Wind Symphony, as a 1-credit class that may also be taken on an audit basis. The course is now titled Concert Band, and beginning in Fall 2012 will be under the direction of Michael Meidenbauer. Brass and percussion students may register for this class: MP-297 006 Chamber Music – Concert Band
The ensemble rehearses once a week on Thursdays, 7 - 9 pm.
