MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

In Skidmore's OCSE we have a lot to celebrate!

• Almost 59% of the Class of 2007 studied abroad prior to graduating.
• Skidmore was recently ranked 14^th in the list of top 40 Baccalaureate Institutions by total number of students studying abroad.
• Over 400 Skidmore students are planning to study abroad during the 2007-2008 academic year.
• Students can choose from 125 programs abroad in 43 countries, including 9 Skidmore programs.
• Students can also choose from almost 200 campuses in the U.S. and its territories through our domestic off-campus opportunities, including options at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Historically Hispanic-Serving Colleges and Universities, and schools in urban centers.

Of course, all of these accomplishments are wonderful; but, more important, they illustrate our overarching commitment to offering a portfolio of off-campus opportunities that enhance our on-campus curriculum and support the College's founding principle of linking theoretical and applied learning. Our ultimate goal is to allow students to engage in a distinct culture and, in turn, to begin to question the assumptions they hold regarding themselves, their own culture, and the cultures of others. Certainly in today's global society, we all need to be able to confront cultural expectations and stereotypes in their daily personal and professional lives. By developing and supporting a wide variety of off-campus opportunities, OCSE hopes to advance the College's goals of producing engaged citizens who possess a high level of intercultural literacy.
