About OCSE

Message from the Director

Skidmore's OCSE has a lot to celebrate!

  • 59% of our 2012 graduates have studied off campus.
  • Skidmore was recently ranked 2nd among the top 40 Baccalaureate Institutions for the number of students studying abroad for one semester semester and ranked 10th for the total number of students studying abroad. (Data compiled by the Institute for International Education).
  • Students can choose from 136 programs abroad in 47 countries, including 8 Skidmore programs.
  • Students can also choose from almost 200 campuses in the U.S. and its territories through our domestic off-campus opportunities, including options at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Historically Hispanic-Serving Colleges and Universities, schools in urban centers, a marine laboratory, and internships in the U.S. Capital.

Of course, all of these accomplishments are wonderful; but, more importantly, they illustrate our overarching commitment to offering a portfolio of off-campus opportunities that enhance our on-campus curriculum and support the College's founding principle of linking theoretical and applied learning. Our ultimate goal is to allow students to engage in a distinct culture and, in turn, to begin to question the assumptions they hold regarding themselves, their own culture, and the cultures of others. Certainly in today's global society, we all need to be able to confront cultural expectations and stereotypes in our daily personal and professional lives. By developing and supporting a wide variety of off-campus opportunities, OCSE hopes to advance the College's goals of producing engaged citizens who possess a high level of intercultural literacy.

So, there's really only one question: Where will you go?

Come explore your opportunities! We're waiting for you…
