Academic Program

The Fall Seminar in Paris creates an opportunity, accessible to faculty from across the campus that allows faculty members to develop and deliver a program in Paris, in English, that is specific to their area of expertise and utilizes the resources of the site to advance the purposes of the curriculum. It also gives faculty the opportunity to incorporate a more global perspective in their course work upon returning to the Skidmore campus.

Students take a total of 16 credits for the semester (four, 4-credit courses). All courses are delivered at the Skidmore in Paris program center.

  • Language Course. Students take one, four-credit language course. Because this program has been created specifically for students with little or no French, this language course will be a beginning or lower-intermediate level class. This course is taught in French by a Skidmore in Paris instructor. This language course satisfies the foreign language requirement at Skidmore.
  • Civilization Course. Students take another four-credit course, offered only to Seminar participants, that focuses on French culture/civilization. This course is taught in English by a Skidmore in Paris instructor.
  • Topics Courses. The seminar director delivers two, four-credit courses, specific to the department represented and offered at the 200 or 300 level. The two courses are linked to each other and capitalize on the resources available on site in Paris, France or the European Union. These courses are taught in English by the seminar director.
