One of the largest colleges in the University of London, King’s College is host to over 16,000 students. King’s offers a long and distinguished tradition of academic excellence, dating back to 1829, and boasts a number of Nobel Prize winners among its alumni. This provides students with an academic experience that is both rigorous and rewarding. Its three main campuses—Strand, Waterloo, and London Bridge—are in close proximity to Trafalgar Square, Covent Gardens, the Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, and the River Thames.
This unmatched location allows students to easily take advantage of the incredible diversity and resources of London. Students also have access to the many social and cultural opportunities offered by the student union, including a number of societies from dramatic to political.
King’s College is a competitive school that offers program participants full integration into a traditional British university setting. Students must have at least a 3.3. GPA and are expected to be self-directed learners who work independently. Our students select courses from a broad range of subjects: humanities, including American studies, classics, film studies, linguistics and languages, music, philosophy, and religious studies; biomedical sciences; health and life sciences; physical sciences; and social sciences and public policy, including war studies.
Participants normally take four courses for a total of 16 credits. Although most departments are open to spring-semester–only students, some offer only full–year courses. Careful selection of courses is needed to avoid problems.
King’s offers several options for housing, including catered and non catered residence halls and apartment residences. Although King’s is fairly confident that they will be able to house all students, Skidmore will make and finance alternate housing if arrangements cannot be made through King’s.
The program at King’s, offered only in the SPRING SEMESTER, consists of two ten–week terms. The first term runs from early January through March and is followed by a month–long break. The second term begins in mid–April with exams ending as late as mid–June. Our students attend both sessions and take exams as scheduled in June.
