The Arts & Business program, only offered in the spring semester, is a new program track of Skidmore's long-standing program in Paris. The program provides students with little or no previous French language study to learn French in Paris and take courses in English. A family stay and an emphasis on the cultural and social life of Paris will allow students to experience Parisian daily life firsthand.
Participants will enroll in the following courses: a beginning or low-intermediate intensive French language course, a course on French civilization, and 2-3 additional courses that are taught at the Skidmore Center or at one of Skidmore's partner institutions in Paris primarily focusing on French language and civilization, business, and the arts. Since all courses are taught in English (except for French language), course options will be limited.
Staffed by our Resident Director and staff, the program center is located in the heart of Paris, in the 3rd arrondisement, close to the Centre Georges Pompidou, the well-known and vast complex for the arts and culture.
The program center serves as a home base for our students while they are in Paris. It houses Skidmore’s administrative offices, classrooms for program courses, computer facilities, and a small resource library. The director and staff are available throughout the semester/year to provide whatever support and assistance our students might need. Skidmore aims to use only French in the program center, maximizing the linguistic benefit of the program and integration into French culture.
Skidmore in Paris: Advanced Studies
The Advanced Studies program is designed for students who have completed studies in French language at or above the FF203 level. All coursework is in French and courses are available at the Skidmore center or at local universities in Paris affiliated with the program. Offered fall, spring, or full year.
Paris Fall Seminar
The Paris Fall Seminar program, offered every fall, is a faculty-led program designed to offer students an opportunity to study in Paris, even if they have little or no French language skills. The Seminar Director position is filled by a different Skidmore professor each year, and past directors have come from the departments of Philosophy, History, Foreign Langauges & Literatures, and English.
