Travel Warnings

"Travel Warnings" are issued when the U.S. Department of State recommends that Americans avoid a certain country, primarily because of health and/or safety concerns during an extended period of time. For more information or to view the list of travel warnings currently in effect go to the State Department's Current Travel Warnings Web page.

Current Travel Warnings affecting the Approved Programs list:

• Mali (update issued 08/31/2009)
• Kenya (update issued 07/24/2009)
• Nepal (update issued 05/22/2009)

Travel Alerts

The U.S. Department of State also issues "Travel Alerts" for the purpose of notifying U.S. citizens of short-term situations that may pose a threat to U.S. citizens. For more information or to view the list of travel alerts currently in effect go to the State Department's Current Travel Alerts Web page.

Country Specific Information (CSI)

In addition to Warnings and Alerts, the State Department issues Country Specific Information (CSI) for every country of the world with information on such matters as the health conditions, crime, unusual currency or entry requirements, any areas of instability, and the location of the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate in the subject country. OCSE recommends students to review the CSI for the host country/countries of their chosen study abroad program.
