Skidmore Summer Flute Institute
The Program
The Institute is open to flutists of intermediate to professional levels, and welcomes high school, college, and adult students. Flutists are invited to take part in a concentrated program that features master classes with Jan Vinci, ensemble rehearsals, private lessons, and recitals. The week-long program also features master classes with special guest artists: *Jeffrey Khaner, principal flute with the Philadelphia Orchestra, will teach two master classes; and Mark Vinci, jazz flutist and saxophonist, will teach a master class on improvisation. To promote and encourage community participation, one evening master class will be open to local flutists free of charge. There will be an opening concert presented by the Institute faculty.
Performance opportunities for Institute flutists include master classes, three solo recitals, and one ensemble concert. Supplemental lectures on performance, music education, and the music profession will also be presented. The Institute accompanist will be pianist Barbara Lee. Institute assistant instructors are experienced professional flutists who will coach ensembles and teach some private lessons. Students may register for master classes and choose their performance repertoire. Master class participation, ensemble placement, and repertoire will be confirmed by the director and guest artists, and students will be notified in writing prior to arrival on campus.
