Deposits and payments
Accepted students enrolling in the Institute for two weeks are required to send a nonrefundable deposit of $400 to hold their places in the 2009 program. Students enrolling for four weeks are required to send a nonrefundable deposit of $700. The deposit is required upon acceptance into the program. The balance is due as noted on an invoice issued by the College’s Bursar’s Office.

Graduate Credit
To apply for graduate credit, you must select this option in the space provided on the application form. Only students accepted into four weeks of one discipline are eligible to receive graduate credit. There is an additional tuition charge of $350.

Merit Scholarships
Several generous gifts and the Institute's commitment to access and diversity enable us to launch a scholarship competition each year. The competition is open to students enrolled full-time in undergraduate or graduate programs who are nominated by their creative writing instructors. In 2008, the Institute awarded full tuition scholarships to more than thirty students from, among other institutions, Temple University, Brown University, Stanford University, Cleveland State University, Connecticut College, University of Rochester, University of Michigan, Sarah Lawrence, Yale University, Wellesley College, Washington University, University of Miami and Bennington College.

If you are interested in being considered for this competition, you may find instructions on how to apply and an application at 2009 Scholarship Application. Again, you must be nominated by your creative writing instructor to be eligible. Instructors may find directions on how to nominate students at Scholarships 09. All faculty nominations and applications from students must be received BY MARCH 10th. Scholarships will be awarded by MARCH 20th. The names of scholarship award winners, along with their schools, will be announced to all applicants on or around MARCH 20th.

Financial Aid
A very small number of partial-tuition, financial-aid awards are available mainly to four-week students. Typically these awards do not exceed $300 per session. If you are interested in being considered for financial aid, please note this in the brief letter that accompanies your application materials.

Refund Policy

Application fees will not be refunded.

Because faculty and staff salary commitments must be made in advance and the costs of plant operations are fixed, the College must follow a very limited refund policy.  Details of this policy as it relates to tuition, room, and board follow.  Appeals for refunds due to extenuating circumstances may be made in writing to the Program Director or the Dean of Special Programs.

If Skidmore College cancels a program all fees will be refunded.

TUITION:

Tuition payments (less non-refundable deposit) will be refunded if requested, in writing, thirty (30) days prior to the program start date.

ROOM:

100% of the room fee will be refunded if the student decides not to attend Skidmore and so notifies the Program Director thirty (30) days prior to the program start date.

50% of the room fee will be refunded if withdrawal from the program occurs after this time and before the program begins.

The room fee will not be refunded if the student withdraws on or after the first day of the program.

BOARD:

100% of the board fee will be refunded prior to the program start date.

Withdrawal from the College after the start of any program shall entitle the student to a pro-rated refund of the unused portion of the board fee from the date of withdrawal.
