Peter Carner, new Camp Northwoods DirectorPeter Carner – Director

Peter lives, with his wife Nicole and 5 year old son Madigan, in Greenwich, New York. Peter has spent his whole life working to make sure that children have every experience possible - from granting wishes at the Make-A-Wish Foundation to creating camping experiences for children who were told that they could not attend camp because of their medical needs. Peter has been in the camping world since 1990 as a Counselor, Program Director, Camp Director, and most recently as a consultant to camps and recreational programs trying to improve their programs. With an undergraduate degree in Medical Anthropology and a Masters Degree in Education, Peter spends his non-camp seasons as a 5th grade teacher at Schuylerville Elementary School. Peter also holds accreditations in First Aid/CPR, RTE, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Team Building, Ropes Course Management, and is a NYS Licensed Guide. Peter enjoys spending time with his family and being on the water. 

 

Kara Koenig – Assistant Director

Certifications: NYS Teaching Certification: Art K-12, RTE, CPR/PR

Experience: Camp Wilton Summer Camp for Disabled Adults; Albany Jewish Community Center Summer Teen Camp: Lifeguard, Waterskiing Instructor;
Canoe, Kayak and Swimming Instructor; Albany Jewish Community Center After School Counselor/Camp and Lifeguard; Bethlehem Town Park: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Interests:skiing, swimming, hiking, bike riding, snow shoeing, camping...anything outdoors

 

Caroline Cook - Counselor

Education: Bates College class of 2013 

Certifications: CPR

Experience: Assistant Counselor at YMCA Camp Chinchagook, Volunteer at Greenberg Childcare Center, years of babysitting for children of all ages

Interests: music (piano), photography, anything active and athletic, psychology, graphic design and good food

 

Maria DeFilippo - Counselor

Education: Masters Degree in Elementary Education, SUNY Plattsburgh; Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, Elmira College
Certifications:
NYS Teaching Certificate PreK-6
Experience: 12 years of teaching (mostly 4th grade); 6 years working at Camp Wilton as a Counselor, Cabin Head, Activity Head, and AssistantDirector; 9 years of teaching summer school (children going into 3rd grade)
Interests: kayaking, reading, having fun with friends and family, gardening


Bradford Hale - Counselor

Casey Marchaland – Counselor

Education: Greenwich Central School
Experience: Willard Mountain Ski Instructor and years of babysitting
Interests: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking…anything outdoors really

 

Ellen Mattison - Counselor

Education: Junior at SUNY Geneseo majoring in Childhood Education with Special Education (Grades 1-6) with a concentration in the Natural Sciences/ Geology
Certifications: RTE, CPR/PR

Experience: years of babysitting, internship in a first grade classroom, has worked/taught in many classrooms grades 1-6

Interests: loves spending time with family and friends, enjoys running and playing sports for fun, loves being busy and active, loves being outside in the summertime and enjoys reading a good book in her free time

 

Jake Ostrov - Counselor

Experience: Counselor at Greenfield Summer Camp; Youth Soccer Coach at Saratoga/Wilton Soccer Club
Interests: soccer, hiking, skiing, mountain biking, tennis, history and current events

 

Lindsey K. Ranck - Counselor

Education: Schuylerville High School
Experience: Teen Mentor and Mediator, Child Development-1st grade implementation, Youth Group Volunteer, Rebuilding Together Team Member, Select and Chamber Chorus Member, Volleyball and Basketball Varsity Team Member, Guatemala Mission Fundraiser, Meals on Wheels Delivery Volunteer

Sean Rossley - Counselor
