Skidmore Summer Science Institute for Girls

Why a Science Institute for Girls?

Girls entering the seventh and eighth grade are at an age when exposure to the various disciplines of the sciences can have a tremendous impact on them and on their futures, but frequently find themselves turned or turning away from the sciences as the boys move forward.

The Science Institute for Girls aims to clear the way for young girls to immerse themselves in the study of the sciences. They come to find in science a fascinating way to look at and to understand the workings of the world and, given the unfettered opportunity, that they are every bit as capable of serious scientific inquiry as their male counterparts. Through their appreciation of science and by working with others who share their interests, they gain confidence in themselves and in their abilities. And they have a lot of fun in the process!
