The Institute's two one-week sessions offer girls entering the seventh and eighth grades a dynamic, hands-on encounter with a wide range of scientific disciplines. Students will explore exciting concepts within the fields of biology, geology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science and environmental science, both in the lab and in the field. They will employ a range of scientific methods and make use of the tools modern scientific technology. In Skidmore's Dana Science Center they'll learn to find their way around modern laboratory facilities and field trips will take students into the natural world to study diverse topics such as ecology, entomology, herpetology, limnology and plant biology. By the end of the week, the students will have had exposure to a vast array of scientific disciplines and techniques, in addition to working on problem-solving skills and meeting new friends. This program is a residential program - unfortunately we cannot accept commuters.

NOTE TO PARENTS: For many, sending a young child off for a week is not an easy thing. If you have any concerns about the experience your daughter will have at Skidmore, please call Darcy Bourassa, Program Coordinator for the Science Institute in the Office of the Dean of Special Programs, at (518) 580-5592. She knows the program and the college well, and will be happy to answer all of your questions. Our aim is to ensure a safe and happy time for the students as well as for their parents!
