Why Support Special Programs?
Since its inception in 1976, the Office of the Dean of Special Programs at Skidmore has enticed people of all ages to challenge themselves to pursue academic, artistic and physical excellence. You can be a part of this exciting endeavor by supporting scholarship funds, artistic and academic innovation, technology advancement, or lectureship funds, or by making an unrestricted gift to be used where needed the most.
Special Programs raises funds in numerous ways to support the many programs offered to the public. Through grants, mail appeals, foundation and corporate sponsors, donations, event fundraising and special programming, we are able to deliver high quality and enriching programs for people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and with various interests.Invest in the teaching and learning that takes place at Skidmore through the Office of the Dean of Special Programs, a truly innovative unit of the College. The Office of the Dean of Special Programs has the mission of enriching the academic and intellectual life of Skidmore College. To this end, the ODSP sponsors a diverse group of multi-faceted programs, including degree-granting (undergraduate and graduate), credit bearing, and non-credit options. The primary responsibility of the ODSP is to extend educational opportunities to non-traditional students engaged in the process of life-long learning. Therefore, the ODSP encourages academic innovation and experimentation; it embodies Skidmore's tradition of judicious risk-taking. By encouraging and creating opportunities for diversity for the academic and civic communities, the ODSP provides a vital resource for change and growth in both. Furthermore, through its unique position, the ODSP is dedicated to strengthening Skidmore's relationship to Saratoga Springs and this region. In addition, the ODSP has the responsibility for administering programs that do not fall neatly within the confines of the nine-month academic calendar and for directing the use of Skidmore's facilities during the summer months. Within the context of fiscal self-sufficiency, it should strive to strike a balance between the use of the College's human resources and facilities without overextending either.
