
HONORS
Departmental Honors will be awarded to any student who graduates from Skidmore after no fewer than three semesters and who meets the following conditions:
- a GPA of 3.5 or higher for all work in the Philosophy major
- Majors are encouraged to write a thesis in their senior year. A grade of A- or better on such a thesis is required for departmental honors.
Courses in religion offered by the Department of Philosophy and Religion that count toward the major in religious studies usually may not count toward the philosophy major (except with special permissionof the Chair of the Department). Courses designated as PR may count for either the major in philosophy or religious studies.
COOPER BARNETT PRIZE
The Cooper-Barnett prize in Philosophy was established by Dr. and Mrs. Darnell Rucker and friends of Marie Cooper Barnett, and awarded to an outstanding senior student with a major or combined major in Philosphy.
The following factors (not ranked in order of importance) will be considered:
- cumulative in the major
- cumulative in all courses
- courses taken in the department/major
- quality of the senior research work
- achievement and promise for the future
- seriousness of interest in philosophic learning
